Welcome to the Social Justice Research Centre headed by Professor S. Caroline Taylor, with deputy head Dr Judith Cockram and acting deputy head Dr Eyal Gringart.
The Social Justice Research Centre conducts research with a focus on social justice, social inclusion, and wellbeing. The Centre is multidisciplinary, with researchers from an array of disciplines including psychology, sociology, speech pathology, disability studies, children and family studies, youth work studies, women’s studies, counselling, and community studies.
Researchers within the centre work in partnership with the community, government and other organisations on a range of projects. Both academic and community interests are researched and the information is communicated via a range of forums to the professional, scientific and lay community. Our aim is to become recognised nationally and internationally as a centre for excellence in social justice research.
The Social Justice Research Centre:
- provides a stimulating and a collegial base for academic and postgraduate research falling within one or more of the Centre’s research areas;
- works in collaborative partnership with stakeholders on a range of projects, encouraging and supporting research that engages the community and professions;
- obtains funding from external granting bodies to further social justice and social inclusion research by academic staff and postgraduate students;
- conducts high quality research and disseminates the findings in scholarly books, refereed journals, reports, submissions and other appropriate outlets to those in the professions and the general community, in order to inform policy and praxis; and
- mentors students, junior academics, and early career researchers.
