What are majors, minors and electives?

What is a major?

A major is a set twelve (BSocSci) units in an area of study and identified by a 'unitset' (for example, MAYOU for a major in Youth Work)).

If I am not a student in a Community Studies degree, can I study a B Soc Sci  major?

There is one Major (eight units) and one Supporting Major (ten units) in Community Studies available to students who are not enrolled in the BSocSci.

Minors

A minor is a set of six units in an area of study and identified by a 'unitset' (for example, MIYOU for a minor in Youth Work).

Six (6) units can be selected from the list of minors. Minors can be included in many courses in the university

Electives

Single units can be taken as electives from the list of minors (includes all units in majors with the exception of specialist units identified in the BSocSci). Individual units can be selected at any level provided prerequistes, if any, are met. If your course does not require a major, you can choose as many as six or eight electives.
